Cloud Migration Challenges

Cloud shift is in full swing and with it cloud migration challenges. Gartner projects that by 2020 more than $1 trillion in IT spending will be directly or indirectly affected by the shift to the cloud, making it “one of the most disruptive forces since the early days of the digital age.”

It’s well documented that migrating to the cloud provides major benefits in terms of increased performance, simplified IT and cost savings. In the past few years, we have seen an influx of amazing technologies that help technology migration partners and internal IT existing infrastructure to the cloud.

However, when it comes to migrating complex legacy applications, organizations can spend months and over $1 million on redevelopment projects to get them to work in the public cloud. Even with all that investment, they have to be moved back on-premises due to security or performance issues about a third of the time.

If you have, or are facing, a cloud migration that includes just a few complex apps, you can easily see why the performance, simplicity and cost savings initially promised fail to materialize.

The rush is on to develop technologies that quickly and more easily migrate complex legacy applications to the cloud. To help you navigate the increasingly muddy waters, we have developed a three-part series on what to look for when choosing the right solution.

We hope you enjoy our four part series on the challenges of migrating applications to the cloud. To read the next post or to skip ahead, please click the links below to view them:
